PostHeaderIcon I’ve had it, I’m installing security cameras?

wireless home security camera

Since last fall, I’ve been having problems with vandalism, mostly with my truck. There has been five different incidents, (At home: Rock chucked at Front Window of house, Allen Wrench stabbed through passenger-side rear tire; at school, valve stem cut on front driver’s side tire, rear passenger-side fender keyed, big dent in top of passenger side front fender). The fender thing happened today, and I’ve decided that was the last straw. I finally went off the deep end.

After getting the dent mostly pounded out, I drove to the Salem Spy Shop and inquired about security cameras for my vehicle. The guy said he had an awesome kit for my truck that contained a wireless camera about as big as half a roll of quarters (hooks up to battery, transmits a signal from 300 feet away), a hidden microphone, and a receiver. The camera is easily hidden and rotates a full 360 degrees. Cost: $90, plus installation.

Now that I’m getting this hooked up (Not until next week), what should I do when I finally catch the bastard who’s doing it? Sue him, get him arrested, blackmail, beat him up, do something even worse to his car, what do you guys think?
I can hide the transmitter in the glove box, it’s small enough.

What I’d also like to do is get a custom window sticker that says, “Smile, fucker, you’re on candid cam!” but I think that just gives it away. What do you think on that?
No, nobody else has access to my truck. It has two coded keys, and those are the only keys that work with the vehicle. I keep one set within five feet of me at all times; the spare set is in my fire safe.

PostHeaderIcon Wireless Router Signal Questions. (Dangerous?) Help please?

wireless security alarm

My Linksys Wireless-G 2.4ghz router sits on the floor of my room in the corner. My head is in the adjacent corner only about 5 or 6 feet away, but a foot or two more elevated.

My question is: Is this dangerous like they say cell phone radiation is, or is it safe to keep it on at all times? I have no security settings like a WEP or WAP and cannot change any settings because I do not have the password (I got the router used and the original owner forgot the password…). I’m not really worried about hackers though.

What I am worried about is the harmful radiation that could be emanating from the router (and are the 2 alarm clock/radios I have dangerous even when they aren’t searching for wireless signals?)

I suppose I COULD switch everything to wired but that’ll be more expensive and a lot less convenient. Not to mention a lot of work rewiring my entire setup…

So what do you recommend? I need professional opinions please… Is this as dangerous as a cell phone is…? =\

PostHeaderIcon Remote Assistance with D-Link router?

wireless security alarm

I need to connect to my computer at home which is behind a D-Link 624 airplus xtreme G wireless router (the pc is using a wired connection)

Another thing, I want to avoid request sending. I want to be able to access my computer from any other computer i use.

How do i find out the complete ip address which i will type in on any other computer to get me connected to mine?
and
How do i exactly need to configure my computer to automatically allow all the requests?

One last question, is there any other setting of SP2, windows firewall or Zone Alarm Security Suite that i need to configure so that they will allow the connection ?

PostHeaderIcon Can I hook up my own car alarm with remote start?

wireless home alarm system

I’m a pretty technical person, and I’ve been hooking up car stereos amps speakers compacitors and so on since I was 16. I’m 24 now, I also built computers for years overclocking and have networked one of the most elaborate home networks I’ve ever seen. I got all 4 of my computers talking, print server, flashed the firmware in a wireless router to create a wireless bridge and stream media from my media center computer through the Xbox 360. I’ve also worked as a web designer and coder. I’ve also have done some work on cars like alternators, serpentine belts, starters, brakes rotors, oil change.
I’m a do-it-your-selfer mostly because I’m broke.

I want to install a remote starter and car alarm system on my wife 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara. I got a system like this installed on my car and few years back and it cost me (parts and labor) $380. I’ve reasearched and I’ve found an instructional dvd that seems pretty informative on this subject. I can find these remote start/alarm system on the net for around $100 and the dvd is $40.

I think I could hook one up myself, but I’ve just never done it before.
How hard is this to do? Based on my background do you think I could do this? I’m really looking for answer from people who has installed a system like this themselves
